Mixing a recording is a craft in itself. There are still many creative decisions to be made even after the recording process has finished. -

If a record is to have continuity, depth and in some cases actually end up getting finished - a good producer will get you there. Producing music is much more about "getting it done" and making songs "really happen" than sitting in the fancy chair behind a mixing desk calling the shots. -
